In the series, they call what happened in The Avengers, the Battle of New York. It opened with a guy named Mike Peterson with his son looking at The Avengers toy display through a window obviously wanting to have one but couldn't due to lack of finances, when suddenly -- and I was surprised and pumped by it (I love scenes like this, you see) -- a nearby building whose upper floor exploded, making Mike hurriedly run into it to go save those who needed saving. He smashed his hands (not quite like The Hulk's smash alright) onto the walls, climbed up (made me remember Spider-Man), saved an injured woman then jumped off from that floor to the ground. A woman named Skye captured this on video.
In the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, agent Grant Ward, who's recently back from a mission involving a group named The Rising Tide, was being asked by Agent Maria Hill (from The Avengers also) -- who I was glad to see as well -- about the organization. Following this was Phil Coulson's appearance welcoming Grant to Level 7 then telling him where he had been after Fury faked his death.
Skye found Mike in a restaurant to tell him about S.H.I.E.L.D.. Prior to this, Mike was watching the news and reading the papers about this hero (himself), "The Hooded Guy" who, I'd like to say, didn't impress me. Although, to be fair, he was indeed wearing a hooded jacket when the rescue happened. But really, The Hooded Guy or The Hood? REALLY? Of course Oliver Queen/Green Arrow automatically, naturally popped into my mind. I watch and read (a bit of) Arrow and I love it and it's all loads of amazing but that's another story. Anyhoo, that's probably the only thing in this episode that made me like, meh.
Later on, Coulson and Grant found out that computer geek Skye is a member of the aforementioned group, the Rising Tide, so they abducted her to get the superhero video and also to gain knowledge about this "centipede" thing that she's talking about. This centipede-like thing was seen attached to the forearm of Mike as he made a phone call to someone, and in the video that other agents, Fitz and Simmons recovered showing the last guy who's had it too. Turned out, this thing that looks like a centipede is an intravenous filter used to filter a serum into the blood that allows the recipient to have strength that is far more volatile compared to the one used to create Captain America. It’s called Extremis (which I and probably most people first heard from Iron Man 3) and it is said that it's very unstable. Coulson realised that Mike could explode anytime.
He was tracked to the Union Station (thanks to Skye who sent the coordinates) as he wreaked havoc because he was losing control and the poison was taking over his system. While he was explaining to Coulson that he was a good guy, he was shot in the head by Grant using a very high-tech rifle which Fitz and Simmons provided to save his life.
After telling Mike's family that he would be coming home, Skye was asked by Coulson if she wanted to join them as her expertise and knowledge are needed. Few seconds later, Coulson received a call about an 0-8-4, which is the title of the next episode. Here is the preview:
I loved the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot episode despite the "Hood" thing. There were humorous and witty lines here and there that I liked. I've read too that Samuel Jackson aka their Director Nick Fury might guest star in an episode or two as he has expressed interest to do so, as well as some characters from the Marvel Universe also. As for me, I'd want my superheroes.
Two things that particularly caught my attention:
1. S.H.I.E.L.D. ID
I browsed the net to see if there were sites where I could make mine (just like my Hunger Games ID) and voila! Eureka! There's this one, their official website apparently, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where I can do just that! YEY! Just click Get Your ID Badge, use your Facebook or Instagram photo (I wasn't able to link my IG photo for some reason), type in the details and click Create ID. This is it (I think I'm too aliw about this HAHA):
2. Lola
Lola is the name of Coulson's convertible. She is WOW!
Just FYI, she can FLY. Yep!
A YAY for Marvel fans this series is. Watch; you're granted access to Level 7.
