Bandai Namco announced that Divinity: Original Sin 2 is coming to current-gen consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Divinity: Original Sin 2, an award winning, BAFTA-nominated PC exclusive, comes from Larian Studios and is actually one of the better games to come out of a Kickstarter campaign. Divinity: Original Sin 2 also holds the distinction of having the highest rating for a PC game in Metacritic with a 93 critic score in 2017. So, yeah, it's a big deal. It's an incredibly deep game that you guys can really sink your teeth into. And rejoice, now it's coming to consoles!
What is Divinity: Original Sin 2?
In a nutshell, it's the kind of game you pour your soul into. It's a sandbox RPG - not exactly open world, but this is game with depth. You can literally tackle an obstacle in a bajillion different ways. The gameplay loop is more like a gameplay tree; it branches out into just dozens upon dozens of options.
The world itself is incredibly interesting. It's called Rivellon, and you can go around talking to everything and anything (even dead people) and interacting with it in a mind-blowing number of ways.
By default, there are 6 pre-built characters but you can go in and make your own. However, it is highly recommended that you take one of the default characters, at least in your initial playthrough. When you're finally done with your first playthrough in 2021, then you should explore character creation.
I'm a console gamer. Should I pick it up? What's new?
Glad you asked! Well, for one thing, it'll have a revamped interface optimized for consoles and cooperative play. And along with online play with 2-4 players (because of course it'll have online play), you can also play it split-screen couch co-op! COUCH FREAKIN' CO-OP! You and a buddy and your younger sibling with an unpaired controller could play together in one room like the good old days! It'll be lots of fun! Couch co-op games are a dying breed so I'm ultra glad to see it back with this magnificent gem of a game.
