We all know that balance patches and tweaks end up affecting fighting games in a very real way. When a game like Tekken 7, one of the deepest, most cerebral fighting games currently being played by a large community, has such a shakeup, people notice. With Tekken 7's Season 2 now live, we're all trying to figure out what exactly changed. Well, here's what you need to know.
All the characters got reworked
Everyone got touched. Some characters like Claudio and Asuka got a pretty good buff, while characters like Paul and Dragunov received some nerfs. To read all the patch notes, check out Tekken World Tour here. On top of that, everyone has move that has hit properties that now wall bound. It should open up a lot of possibilities.
I'm mainly a King player (not a very good one at that), and this is the only thing I could figure out to do with his new sidestep 2 launcher.
Everyone has autocombos now, but you can turn them off
They work by pressing 1, 1, 1, or 2, 2, 2 after a launcher, depending on the character. They're far from optimized, which is okay, I guess.
Lei and Anna are now available
And they're both included in the Season 2 Pass. Their unlockables are still locked inside Treasure Battle so you'll have to dig for those if you want them.
The Season 2 Pass is Available
The entire season pass, which includes Anna and Lei (and hopefully the other characters) costs Php 995 or $29.99 if you're from the US or SGD 29.90 if you're from Singapore on PC.
On PS4, it costs SGD 29.90 if you're on an SG account, and HKD 169 if you're on a Hong Kong account.
Weirdly enough, I couldn't find it on the US PSN store. Maybe it's not out there yet.
Some characters got new cosmetic items.
The SUMMER LESSON set is part of the Season 2 Pass. It also comes with Tekken World Tour cosmetic items. I actually really enjoy dressing up my characters. I feel bad because I shouldn't enjoy it this much.
It also seems like stuff that was locked behind Treasure Battles were unlocked for vanilla and season 1 characters.. Not sure if it's because of the purchased Season Pass 2 or it was unlocked automatically through the new patch. I'm betting it's because of the Season 2 Pass.
Stage Select is much better
Instead of flipping through all the stages, they're all now laid out like a character select screen, which makes everything easier to navigate through. People just pick random anyway.
Character select screen was also changed.
Ranking system revamped
The ranking system has been changed. Now, you can see how far away you are from your next promotion and/or demotion. That kinda sucks for me, because I'm some low tier scrub, so knowing how soon I'm gonna fail just sucks for me.
